Food is one of the most important elements to consider in our monthly budgets. Our daily routines have made us have less time, and we’ve lost the good habit of cooking at home, which reduces our monthly budget. Chef Eric wants to remind you that home-made food is found at home! Some of our best childhood memories are when our grandmothers and mothers made their special dishes with unique flavors.
It’s time to change our habits and eat more homemade food. Here are some of the reasons why cooking at home is cheaper and healthier than takeout. We included some tips to keep in mind:
Good Planning:
We greatly improve our household budgets by planning our daily/weekly menus, buying the right ingredients, and cooking at home. Keep in mind the benefits of a varied diet on our health. We will be able to enjoy delicious and balanced meals with nutritional benefits, according to our dietary preferences. Good planning avoids waste! We recommend keeping a notepad in the kitchen or cell phone with the shopping checklist. Weekly shopping is recommended to obtain fresh produce!
High-Quality Food and Ingredients:
Being able to choose the foods and ingredients ourselves is key. This gives us the power to decide which ones we really need to fit our planning and budget. Always remember to choose your products based on a healthy diet. What happens when we eat out? Fast food foods contain much more fat, calories, and varied ingredients. There is nothing better than choosing fresh food directly from the market!
Chef Eric encourages you to learn more about the culinary arts! This instruction will help you to correctly perform the activity of choosing quality foods, and products. A great way to learn to cook is by checking out Chef Eric’s 12-Episode Video Series. You’ll learn everything from knife skills, to sauce making to breakfast, dinner AND desserts – all in your own home from a seasoned professional. Chef Eric’s Tip: Support local producers, they always have fresh seasonal products with great biodiversity. Organic crops do not contain chemicals or preservatives. And…Why not create your own garden at home? This would save you plenty of money, get you and the family into nature, and your body will definitely THANK YOU!
Entertainment Time:
It is not necessary to leave home and spend hundreds of dollars in order to have a good time. Home cooking can be a great recreational activity! You can get rid of stress by practicing this zen activity. With new recipes you learn, you inspire yourself and generate creativity. Add a personal touch to the dishes so that in the end, your stomach and mind feel satisfied.
Generally, the kitchen is one of the spaces the family shares the most. This means you can generate close contact and direct communication with your family while cooking and eating. It is the perfect time to get out of the routine, and even involve the little ones! Cooking is definitely entertainment for all ages without spending more than your budget allows!
Chef Eric invites you to plan a family recipe at least once a week, everyone at home can participate in creating healthy routines for both the body and the mind!
Saving Money:
This one definitely covers the above points. According to Forbes, it’s up to 5 times more expensive to order food from a restaurant than it is to cook at home. Chef Eric recommends the Japanese method “Kakebo”, recording your expenses by categories (personal, family, home, vacation, etc …). No matter what technique you use, either in a notebook or an Excel spreadsheet. The important thing is that with “your method” you’ll be able to identify where your money is going. This will show you just how much you are spending on take out, restaurants, and fast food vs cooking at home.
